Academy West had a group of 40 students from Ms. Martin’s economics classes attend Junior Achievement’s Journey-2-Jobs event. Junior Achievement has been educating students about career readiness, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy since 1919. The Journey-2-Jobs event focuses on industries that may not require a traditional four-year degree. Academy West was among 500 other high schools learning about the various industries and careers that have a projected need for employees in the future. Participating vendors included General Motors, DTE Energy, Blue Cross/Blue Shield and more.

Academy West Teacher, Kimberly Martin, commented, “I love watching the students as they learn how much money they can make in the trade industry without having to attend college. Hands-on training is what we need in today’s economy.”

Students had the opportunity to meet and interview professionals while enjoying hands-on activities. This experience is sure to inspire our AW students as they plan and prepare for a successful future.
